The Consul at Danzig ( Perkins ) to the Secretary of State

The High Commissioner of the League of Nations informs me during the past few weeks he has received from the Polish Commissioner General a number of complaints concerning alleged physical attacks on Polish citizens in most cases by members of Hitler party. Danzig police have made no arrests and have denied most of the Polish allegations. Polish Commissioner General demands protection of Polish citizens. The High Commissioner considers the situation most serious. [Page 596] He has obtained promise of a thorough investigation from the President of the Senate and has suggested that a committee composed of the American, British and the Belgian Consuls be asked to investigate incidents in which Danzig and Poland cannot agree as to the facts. This suggestion will be submitted to the Senate and the Polish Government. Am I authorized to accept an invitation to serve from the High Commissioner?
