The Acting Secretary of State to the Ambassador in France (Edge)
265. For Mr. Stimson. This afternoon’s news reports from Paris seem to suggest that the French are planning to keep the German delegation at Paris for discussions with them, with the Americans also participating. Of course this would suggest that the French are trying to put off the London conference. The President thinks that under these circumstances you should tell the French that Mr. Mellon and you are planning to go to London Sunday morning. This should indicate to them our opinion that the London meeting should take place as scheduled.
