The Minister in China (Johnson) to the Secretary of State

Sir: I have the honor to transmit herewith, for the Department’s information, a copy of a letter, with its enclosures, dated Tsingtao, July 1, 1930, from Admiral Charles B. McVay, Jr.,59 Commander-in-Chief of the United States Asiatic Fleet, in regard to the assistance rendered Americans by the Commanding Officer of H. B. M. S. Cricket and by the British Consul at Changsha on the occasion of the withdrawal from that city early in June of Central Government forces under the command of General Ho Chien. Likewise enclosed is a copy of my note of appreciation to the British Minister.59
