Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of the Department’s instruction dated July 11, 1928, (File No. 031–Byrd South Polar Expedition/25⁸⁰) directing this office to request of the New Zealand Government that the supplies and equipment to be used on Commander Byrd’s forthcoming Antarctic Expedition, be admitted free of duty by the Customs authorities at Dunedin.

The Minister of Customs was duly approached in this matter, and I am today in receipt of a communication from the Department of Customs under date of August 21, 1928, stating that exemption has been granted from Customs duties as requested. The Consular Agent at Dunedin has been advised accordingly.
