274. 1. Following from consul at Tsinanfu:
“April 25, noon. Mrs. Charles Eames at Tsingtau, wife of Presbyterian missionary at Tsining, has received a telegram from Hsu-chowfu signed by Hayes of the same mission at Tenghsien stating that: ‘Charles writes soldiers 16th shot Dr. Seymour through heart. Others, including Baltzer party, safe. All leaving Tsining when possible. Tenghsien quiet.’ No further details available. Seymour is head of Presbyterian Hospital, Tsining.”
