97. My telegram of December 1, 10 a.m.
Yesterday I brought to the attention of the President informally the rumors of the proposed coup d’état, whereupon he informed me that he had intended to go to Amapala for a short time but in view of the information I had conveyed to him he would give up the trip. He added that he would take every precaution to defend the city and palace against the proposed attack.
