43. Representative of Ministry of Communications calling at the Legation with telegrams from Chinese delegates Washington Conference [Page 846] states Danish Great Northern Telegraph Company making representations to the Ministry pointing out failure of the Federal Company to execute contract asserting categorically that Federal Company will be unable to raise the capital and urging that the Great Northern be allowed to take over Federal contract under guarantee of execution. Director General of Telegraphs returning evasive replies.
Chinese still perturbed at reported international commission for wireless and disappointed and uneasy at failure even to commence Federal contract.
Director General particularly anxious to learn method and progress of Federal Company bond issue. If the Department could telegraph reassuring information it would relieve an embarrassing situation.
