The Acting Secretary of State to the Minister in China ( Schurman )

42. With reference to Department’s telegram No. 337 of December 22, 1921.61

Advise Chinese Foreign Office that the Department and the Continental and Commercial Trust and Savings Bank of Chicago continue to receive letters from American purchasers of Chinese bonds issued in connection with the Continental Bank loan, now in default, asking when payment of principal will be made by the Chinese Government. You may state that the Department would like to receive some intimation as to when these American holders of Chinese bonds may expect payment now long past due.
