5611. Your 4395, February 5, 4 p. m. At any sacrifice I am happy to serve here until after the end of the war and I am making my arrangements to stay for this period.

I have no wish to be relieved from service since the President wishes me to remain; and I beg you to do me the favor of expressing personally to him my grateful appreciation of this fresh proof of his confidence which I hope I can continue to justify. I also thank you heartily for the evidence of your sympathetic approval.
