President Wilson to the Acting Secretary of State
Washington,
September 26, 1914.
My Dear Mr. Lansing: I return the enclosed reports of the alleged interview with Baron von Schoen.4
I hope that if there is any proper way of opening the matter with the German Ambassador, it may be opened. I feel with you that there can be no real doubt about the substantial authenticity of the interview and I think it not only desirable, but imperative, that this gentleman should not remain here.
Cordially and sincerely yours,
Woodrow Wilson
