Mr. Terrell to Mr. Olney.

[Telegram.]

By telegram from Jewett it is reported that 800 Armenians and 10 Turks have been killed in the last few days at Sivas. The approach of Koords on the city is reported by an officer. Killing Malacia Jesuits is not confirmed. Consul of France telegraphs 4,000 killed at Kurun. Barnum telegraphs eight of our missionary houses burned at Harpoot, rest plundered; missionaries safe. Will you authorize me to demand instant payment for the burned buildings. Kaimakam of Hadjin threatens to burn town and sow it with barley. Three American ladies are there; I have notified the Sublime Porte that if one of them is hurt I will demand the head of that governor. No longer an Armenian question, but one of humanity. Direct if I should cooperate in future measures.

Terrell.
