Constantinople, October 10, 1895.

Apprehension of massacre of missionaries alike at Aleppo, Hadjin, Mersine, and Marash. Missionaries here agree that danger would be greater in transit than to stay calmly at their posts. * * * British ambassador will apply for use of British vessels if needed to take refuge before ours can arrive. British missions all located on the coast. The situation here is still precarious. Orders have issued for all provinces to protect Americans.
