Mr. Terrell to Mr. Olney.

[Telegram.]

Monday several hundred Armenians marched on the Porte professedly to ask redress of grievances. The patriarch tried to prevent it. A conflict occurred between Armenians and police. Probably about 60 Turks and Armenians killed—among others Turkish major—and many wounded. Armenians carried pistols. Yesterday several more were killed. Last night 80 killed. Several hundred imprisoned. Porte had notice of the demonstration, which they say was organized by leaders of Huntchaguist revolutionists, whom they have captured. Much terror exists. I think Porte will be able to restrain fanaticism.

Terrell.
