Mr. Adee to Mr. Terrell.
Washington, August 27, 1895.
Sir: I have received your No. 588, of the 7th instant, accompanied by copies of telegraphic and written correspondence between the United States consul at Beirut, the consul-general at Constantinople, and yourself concerning the recent attack by natives upon Professor Christie’s house at Tarsus, his students and servants, who were severely beaten, and his life threatened.
Your prompt action in this matter merits the Department’s hearty approval, and it is sincerely hoped that through the investigations you have set on foot the facts may be fully and clearly ascertained and the matter speedily and satisfactorily disposed of.
I am, etc.,
Acting Secretary.
