Mr. Secretary: Acknowledging receipt of your note dated 5th instant, I have the honor to tender to your excellency my thanks to the [Page 1199]Government of the United States and to the Federal authorities who have intervened in the capture of arms and ammunition near Cedar Keys.
At the same time I take pleasure in undertaking that the Spanish consul in Florida will make in due time the sworn statement which you mention as necessary in order to establish judicial proceedings.
