Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 13th ultimo, in which you suggest that the decision reached by this Government on the subject of sending their families to join the captive Samoans at Jaluit, as expressed in a letter of the Secretary of State of February 16 last, be reconsidered.
In reply I beg to say that I shall avail myself of the earliest practicable opportunity to take up the matter, and meanwhile beg to renew to you, sir, the assurances of my high consideration.
