Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 12th instant, setting forth the grounds upon which your Government acted in expelling the American citizen, Eugene Wiener.

I have transmitted to oar minister at Port au Prince a copy, explaining that its statements had been verified by evidence submitted by you to this Department, and instructing him to refrain from remonstrance against the expulsion of Mr. Wiener.
