Baron Fava to Mr. Gresham.

[Translation.]

Mr. Secretary of State:

By my note dated yesterday I informed your excellency that I had asked the royal consul at Denver detailed information concerning the occurrences at Walsenburg.

That royal official has now telegraphed me that four Italians have been put to death by the mob, while being taken to prison, and two in the jail itself.

While having the honor of bringing the foregoing to your excellency’s knowledge, I hasten to express to you my firm belief that the Federal Government will not hesitate to advise the proper authorities of the State of Colorado to cause the persons guilty of the six murders committed to be brought before the courts.

Accept, etc.,

Fava.
