Made demand upon this Government Renton matter, and have had one conference with the President, and satisfied that they are trying to gain time. They urge reasonable delay. Recent demand has been made by British charge d’affaires that Dawe, one of the murderers, shall be liberated, claiming preliminary examination was a trial; it was preliminary investigation only. I have another meeting Saturday.
