Sir: I have the honor to inclose herewith the copy of a cablegram which I received from yon at an early hour this morning, instructing [Page 744] me to inform the foreign office of our acceptance of the extension of the Samoa land commission until March 31, 1894.

I also inclose the copy of a note which I thereupon addressed to the Earl of Rosebery.

German Government having likewise agreed, this Government accepts extension of Samoan land commission until March 31, 1894. New American commissioner, vice Ormsbee, resigned, will he at once named. Notify foreign office.

Mr. White to the Earl of Rosebery.

My Lord: I have the honor to acquaint your lordship, in accordance with telegraphic instructions from the Secretary of State, that my Government accepts the extension of the Samoan land commission until March 31, 1894, the German Government having agreed to do likewise, and that a new American commissioner will at once he appointed in the place of Mr. Ormshee, who has resigned.
