Excellency: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 1st instant, informing this Department of the receipt by the Earl of Kimberley of a telegram, dated March 27th last, from Her [Page 620] Majesty’s consul at Apia, reporting that he has still hopes that peace may be restored in Samoa, and that he does not share the anxiety felt by his United States colleague.
