Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 23d instant, informing me that you have received a telegram from the Italian minister of foreign affairs announcing that the American Hag was saluted at Spezia on October 21 last with twenty-one guns.

I have the honor to express the satisfaction felt by the Government of the United States at this courteous action on the part of the Government of Italy.
