Sir: Acknowledging the receipt of your dispatches Nos. 824, of the 20th ultimo, and 839, of the 6th instant, relative to the case of John E. Wheelock, I have now to say, with especial reference to the latter of these dispatches, that the reply of the Venezeulan Government upon that subject, as recently received through its chargé d’affaires, Mr. Soteldo, is receiving consideration. You will therefore await further instructions before taking any action.
