Mr. Bátres to Mr. Frelinghuysen.

[Translation.]

Mr. Minister: The Government of the Republic of Salvador, under date of the 26th ultimo, issued the order which I hereby have the honor to transcribe to your excellency:

“The schooner Ounalaska, which was captured in the port of Acajutla, while engaged in carrying arms and munitions of war to aid a political revolution in the Republic, having been declared a lawful prize by the supreme court of justice, the executive hereby orders that the said vessel be placed at the disposal of the American Government, under whose flag it was sailing, in token of special consideration and regard for the United States of America.”

In having the honor to communicate the foregoing order to your excellency, in obedience to the instructions of my Government, I take pleasure in reiterating, &c.
