No. 472.
Mr. Bátres to Mr. Frelinghuysen.

[Translation.]

Sir: I have this day received from the minister of foreign relations of the Republic of Salvador the telegram of which I have the honor herewith to inclose an English translation. Your excellency will thereby see that the schooner Ounalaska, with fraudulent papers for Guayaquil, had brought arms and munitions of war for the revolutionists from San Francisco, Cal., to Acajutla, a port of Salvador. This vessel, which is an American one, has been seized by the Government of Salvador, and the courts are now engaged in examining the question whether it is a lawful prize or not.

The aforesaid Government has instructed me to bring the foregoing to the knowledge of your excellency, and in doing so I subscribe myself, &c.,

ANTONIO BÁTRES.
