Mr. Davis to Mr. West.

Sir: With reference to previous correspondence in regard to the question pending with the Colombian Government as to the custody of the papers of foreign vessels, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 15th instant, in which you communicate the views of Earl Granville on the subject, and state that Her Majesty’s minister at Bogota will be instructed to co-operate with the American minister at that capital with regard to the subject. The latter fact will at once be communicated to Mr. Scruggs, the minister of this country at Bogota.
