Sir: I have the honor to acquaint you that on the 21st instant I received your No. 586 of the 5th instant, and immediately placed it in the hands of the copyist. I was not able to make an appointment to communicate it to Lord Granville for an earlier date than to-day. I have just now returned from the foreign office, where I had an interview with his lordship, and read this instruction to him, agreeably to your direction. I also left a copy of it with him at his desire.
