No. 199.
Mr. Fish to Mr. Francis.

No. 35]

Sir: Your dispatch, No. 62, of the 29th ultimo, relative to a complaint of the Greek synod against certain Protestant missionaries, has been received. As the complaint does not appear to have been acted upon at the date of your dispatch, no grievance which calls for interposition had been sustained. It is expected, however, that, if occasion should arise, you will cautiously and prudently maintain the rights of citizens in the exercise of their religion, as guaranteed by the constitution of Greece.

I am, &c.

HAMILTON FISH.
