No. 119.
Mr. Wing to Mr. Fish.

No. 200.]

Sir: I have the honor to state that the 22d of February received the considerate attention of this government.

The bands of the government were sent to serenade this legation. Not only the diplomatic agents and government officials paid visits to my house, but many prominent private citizens called to offer their compliments upon that day.

President Moreno was quite unwell, but sent his staff officers with Minister Leon, who presented his greetings, together with the most kindly sentiments toward President Grant and yourself. I merely mention this matter in order that you may appreciate how cordial and sincere an interest this people seem to evince in all things pertaining to the history and honor of the United States.

I am, &c,

RUMSEY WING.
