Mr. Sanford to Mr. Hunter
No. 267.]
Legation of the United States,
Brussels,
May 5, 1865.
Sir: I desire to supply an omission in my despatch No. 257.
The compliments of condolence and of sympathy addressed to me on the part of the King, as I have since learned from his aide-de-camp, applied also to the crime which nearly cost to the state the life of Secretary Seward.
I have the honor to be, with great respect, your most obedient servant,
H. S. SANFORD.
Hon. William Hunter, Acting Secretary of State, &c., &c., &c.
