Mr. Seward to Mr. Hale
No. 10.]
Department of State,
Washington,
July 24, 1865.
Sir: Your despatches from No. 30, of June 3 to No. 35, of June 29, have been received, and I thank you for the interesting intelligence which they contain. The sagacious and beneficent measure devised by his Highness the Pacha for the relief of his people, to which you refer in your No. 32, shows him to be a wise and benevolent ruler. His expressions of kindness, as well as those of his minister for foreign affairs, which are personal to myself, are very highly appreciated.
I am, sir, your obedient servant,
WILLIAM H. SEWARD.
Charles Hale, Esq., &c., &c., Alexandria.
