Mr. Seward to Mr. Motley
No. 148.]
Department of State, Washington,
June 13, 1865.
Sir: I have received and have read with deep interest your despatches from No. 101, of April 30, to No. 106, of the 8th ultimo. Your accounts of the feeling with which the news of the assassination of the late President of the United States was received throughout the Austrian empire, as well as elsewhere in Germany, are very gratifying. Your own proceedings upon the case are approved.
I am, sir, your obedient servant,
WILLIAM H. SEWARD.
J. Lothrop Motley, Esq., &c., &c., Vienna.
