Mr. Hunter to Mr. Adams

No. 1397.]

Sir: Your despatch of the 14th ultimo, No. 928, together with its accompanying address by the Anti-slavery Society of Glasgow to the late lamented President Abraham Lincoln, has been received. Though Divine Providence [Page 346] has seen fit to remove from our midst the great man to whom these congratulations are addressed, you may, at a convenient opportunity, inform the society that the present Chief Magistrate highly appreciates this token of their sympathy with the great work which he has been called to complete.

I am, sir, your obedient servant,

W. HUNTER, Acting Secretary.

Charles Francis Adams, Esq., &c., &c., &c.
