Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your very interesting despatch of the 21st of May, No. 69, in relation to the jurisdiction claimed by the British government over leased ground at the ports in China. The just and liberal position taken by Sir Frederick Bruce, in regard to ibis question, as set forth in your communication, is highly gratifying to this government.
