Mr. Seward to Lord Lyons.

My Lord: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 5th instant, in which, referring to my note of the 8th ultimo in regard to the case of the Labuan, under instructions from her Majesty’s secretary of state, written before the reception by her Majesty’s government of a copy of my note above mentioned, your lordship inquires what progress has been made towards the settlement of that case.

In reply, I have the honor to inform your lordship that since the date of my last note on the subject the answer of the United States consul at Matamoras in relation to the commission which was daily expected has not yet reached here.

I have the honor to be, with high consideration, my lord, your obedient servant,

WILLIAM H. SEWARD.

Right Hon. Lord Lyons, &c., &c., &c.
