51. Editorial Note

At a meeting of the Cabinet on August 7, Secretary of the Treasury Anderson reviewed the situation with regard to the U.S. balance-of-payments problems. A discussion of possible actions which might be taken followed. The record of action taken on the items presented at that meeting, dated August 19, states that the President approved a thorough examination of actions which might be taken by other countries, by U.S. business firms, and by the Federal government, the examination to be conducted by the Secretary of the Treasury through the National Advisory Council on International Monetary and Financial Problems.
