Begin Text: Title: Relationship between the security treaty and the United Nations Charter (end title)
In consideration of the obligations which the two countries respectively assume under the Charter of the United Nations, it is hereby confirmed that:
- (a)
- It is the duty of every member of the United Nations to settle any international dispute in which it may be involved by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security and justice are not endangered and to refrain in its international relations from the threat or use of force in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations, as set forth in the Charter of the United Nations.
- (b)
- The Treaty does not affect and shall not be interpreted as affecting in any way the rights and obligations of the two countries under the Charter of the United Nations or the responsibility of the United Nations for the maintenance of international peace and security.
- (c)
- Any hostilites referred to in Article XXIV of the Administrative Agreement and all measures taken as a result thereof shall be immediately reported to the Security Council of the United Nations. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council or any other appropriate organ of the United Nations has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.
