814. Ref Tel Aviv tels 15502 and 15663 both repeated Amman as 165 and Jerusalem as 135 and 138.

Jerusalem should inform General Riley for his information substance of Tel Aviv tel 1566 along with comment that DeRidder’s alleged refusal call emergency MAC meeting prejudices US supporting efforts to have Jordan and Israel endeavor settle disputes through UN procedures and machinery.

Amman should again discuss infiltration situation with HKJ and report what further measures HKJ can take to continue improvement in border situation by preventing infiltration from Jordan into Israel.
3.
Tel Aviv should inform IG in reply its request for advice (Tel Aviv 1550) that US Government believes Israel should settle difference with neighbors by fullest use of UN machinery and procedures.

Tel Aviv and Amman should report status Jordan-Israel border talks (ref Tel Aviv tel 1515 repeated Amman as 162).4

  4. Telegram 1515 from Tel Aviv, Mar. 26, stated that a representative of the Israeli Foreign Ministry had reported that the Israel–Jordan meeting originally scheduled for Mar. 30 was held Mar. 25. It was said to have been a short meeting, at which Colonel Gaon, in accordance with the previous request of Nashishibi, submitted a memorandum on Israel’s anti-infiltration suggestions. The understanding was that the Jordanian Government’s reaction was to be given to Vigier. (684A.85/3–2653)
