No. 94

Editorial Note

Italian Prime Minister De Gasperi and Foreign Minister Sforza arrived in London on March 12 for 3 days of talks with Prime Minister Attlee and Foreign Secretary Bevin. During these discussions, the British Government reaffirmed its support of the tripartite declaration of March 20, 1948, although it emphasized its desire that the matter be settled by conciliation between Italy and Yugoslavia. For a report on these talks by Ambassador Dunn, see telegram 4198 from Rome, Document 264. The official communiqué issued after the meetings is printed in Folliot, Documents on International Affairs, 1951, page 89.
