No. 241

Editorial Note

On January 9, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge sent a letter to the Department of State in which he expressed concern over the military provisions of the Treaty of Peace with Italy and how these provisions prohibited Italy’s rearmament. Lodge called for some steps to “end the present highly unfortunate and unjust situation” caused by the Peace Treaty. Senator Lodge’s letter and the Department’s response are printed in Department of State Bulletin, March 5, 1951, page 379.
