3732. For Amb. ReEmbtel 4032 Jan 132 Pres today approved ur extending invitation to Pleven Jan 29–30 informal visit Wash.

Regret inability offer choice dates but Jan 29–30 are only days within suggestion last para reftel and after Eisenhower has reported.3

If convenient to you it wld be helpful to us if you could be here for visit.

Wld appreciate further detailed info on subjects Pleven desires discuss. Submit any items you believe Pres or Sec shld raise that are not on Pleven’s list. Who will accompany him.

View press speculation hope visit will not leak pending issuance coordinated Wash–Paris communiqué which shld be done soonest. Therefore suggest you consult Pleven and submit to Dept brief draft statement to effect that as PM has indicated desire to discuss with Pres mutual problems Pres has invited Pleven visit Wash Jan 29–30,4 etc.
