223. ReDeptel 210 Apr 5. Army greatly disturbed by Honolulu reporter getting info that preparations being made receive 4000 troops in Hawaii from Korea.

Gen Parks1 in Honolulu succeeded in having mention Korea killed prior to publication but fears leaks from other sources may result in stories that troops coming from Korea.

Dept has advised Army that natl interests compel that if origin of troops becomes known this be explained as part of routine reduction of forces in Korea and part of genl allocation of troops in connection with adjustments incidental to beginning of fiscal year. It is to be made clear that this in no sense infers total US troop withdrawal from Korea imminent.
