The Consul at Medellín, Colombia (Ragland), to the Secretary of State

32. Angry anti-United States demonstration front Consulate between 6 and 6:45 last night. Crowd apparently led by students estimated 150 screamed such things as “abajo Truman and viva La Flota Gran Colombiana”. Speeches referred to United States imperialists and allegedly contained coarse language regarding United States and [Page 559] President Truman. Of interest crowds also shouted “abajo los Liberates”.

Police on hand and no damage done. Consulate building and residences Consular officers under police guard which continues. Apparently no arrests and no information yet available regarding mob leaders.

While further trouble unlikely, am keeping official car under cover as precaution. Incident unreported in local press. Embassy informed.
