The Secretary of State to the Chilean Ambassador (Nieto del Rio)
Excellency: I have the honor to refer to this Department’s note of May 26, 1947,44 concerning charges to the Government of Chile under the Lend-Lease Agreement.47
[Page 526]There are transmitted herewith two copies each of Statements LL–11 and LL–12 and supporting schedules reporting charges through December 31, 1946.50 It will be noted that charges reported under Statement LL–11 total $12,674.32 and that charges reported under Statement LL–12 are counterbalanced by credits to a total of $202,892.83 credit. Charges through December 31, 1946 aggregate the grand total of $20,171,705.30.
Of this grand total the appropriate percentage due to the Government of the United States under the terms of the Agreement is $6,051,000. Since the Government of Chile has already paid $5,000,000, the sum now due is $1,051,000.51
It is requested that these statements and schedules be treated by your Government on a most confidential basis.
