The Ambassador in Argentina (Messersmith) to the Secretary of State
334. Some time ago Govt Petroleum Company, YPF,4 showed some interest in a mixed company and some Deputies opposed such action insisting that YPF should make full report on its operations. Bills referred to in Deptel 226, March 26, all grew out of these rumors concerning YPF and opposition certain deputies to proposed plans of govt to augment petroleum production, possibly through greater use of foreign companies. The bills are under discussion in Chamber, and it is not likely that any of them will be approved. Subject being covered in monthly petroleum report shortly due pursuant Depcirins April 26, 1946.5
