835.24/10–3047
Mr. Thomas S. Strong of the Munitions Division to the Chief of That Division (Cummins)
The Department of the Army proposes for Argentina under its overall Latin American Military Program
(1) | Regular Army— | 210 | Medium Tanks
(2) | Reserve Forces— | 210 | Medium Tanks
(3) | Regular Army— | 560 | Light Tanks
Total— | 980 | Tanks |
The Army informs (Colonel Skeldon) that the 880 [980] figure has not been discussed with the Argentine Government and it is the opinion that this figure would be increased, should the receiving Government set forth sufficient justification for an increase. In addition to a possible increase in the number of units, there would be no breakdown between light and medium tanks, and Argentina would have the approval to purchase, against the total figure, the type tanks (light or medium) most adaptable to her requirements.
