Tokyo, July 15, 1947.

The United States Political Adviser has the honor to refer to this Mission’s despatch No. 1140, June 30, 1947, with which were enclosed copies of an exchange of correspondence between this Headquarters, the Japanese Government, and the United Kingdom Liaison Mission in Japan²⁸ regarding Japanese prisoners of war in Southeast Asia. A reply dated July 10 has just been received from the United Kingdom Liaison Mission to Japanese Government memorandum No. CLO 3941 (RJ), May 24, 1947, in which it is stated that “it is hoped that the repatriation of Japanese personnel under British control in South East Asia will be completed by December 1947”. The Japanese Government has been informed accordingly.
