714. Drumright reports in telegram April 20 that total of 17 American evacuees from Honan had arrived Sian (Embassy’s 626, April 8, 6 [1] p.m.). By despatch April 1634 he reports that women and children of 3 Americans at Fowyang, Anhwei, and 2 women in Chengchow area were evacuating and expressed opinion that other missionaries who had elected to remain are prepared to flee at a moment’s notice. Drumright has informally notified Shensi provincial authorities of possible influx of American refugees and has requested that facilities be accorded them.
