1356. We have found the improved informational service of great interest and value especially in the first period after its inception (ReDepts circular airgram [August] 4, 5 p.m.⁶⁶); there appears lately to have been some falling off.

Vice President Wallace assured us on his own initiative before he left that we would be fully informed in regard to his conversations with Chiang Kai Shek but we have not received such information although we have received instructions in connection with those conversations (your 829, June 15⁶⁷). We would also be interested in learning the nature of the 12 points which Chiang requested Mr. Wallace to bring to President’s attention (your 955, July 14). We are working largely in the dark in these matters.⁶⁸
