1550. For Tittmann. Your 131, April 13—Bern’s 2580, April 22. With the concurrence of the War Department you may in your discretion acknowledge the Vatican’s memorandum of April 12 repeating that the Allied Commanders in the field have unquestionable evidence that the Abbey of Monte Cassino formed part of the German defensive system.35 We have no further comments to make at this time.
